International Driver Training in Washington, DC
Safe, Supportive Instruction for New Drivers in the U.S.

  • Adjusting to driving in a new country can feel overwhelming, especially in a busy metropolitan area like Washington, DC. At CAS Driving School, we understand the unique challenges international drivers face when learning the rules, traffic patterns, and expectations of American roadways. That is why our international driver training program is designed specifically to help newcomers build confidence, understand U.S. driving laws, and safely navigate the diverse streets of the District. Whether you recently moved here for work, school, or family, we provide patient, supportive instruction that helps you feel comfortable behind the wheel.
  • Driving in DC is very different from driving in many other countries. From multilane traffic circles like Dupont Circle to crowded corridors such as 16th Street and New York Avenue, the daily flow of vehicles, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians requires strong awareness and skill. Our instructors are here to walk you through every step of the process so you can drive safely and confidently — no matter where your driving experience began.
  • A Training Program Designed for International Drivers
Many international drivers are experienced behind the wheel but are unfamiliar with American driving customs, DMV rules, and local traffic laws. Our program focuses on bridging that gap so the transition feels smooth, manageable, and stress-free.

Getting Your DC Driver’s License

If you are new to the United States and need a DC driver’s license, you must first obtain a DC learner’s permit, unless your valid foreign license qualifies under a reciprocity agreement.

  • Step 1: Apply for a Learner’s Permit: Pass the DC knowledge exam and eye exam. The knowledge test covers U.S. traffic laws, driving safety, road signs, and DC-specific rules.
  • Step 2: Begin Behind-the-Wheel Training: Once you have your permit, you can begin lessons with us. We teach you the skills required for daily DC driving.
  • Step 3: Take the Road Skills Test: After gaining confidence and skill, you’ll take the DC Road Skills Test to qualify for your driver’s license.

Our instructors, who have decades of experience as Road Test Examiners, help you prepare by practicing every element of the road test, from parallel parking to lane control and safe turning.
